Affiliate Marketing Training – a Beginner’s Guide
Learn How to Tap Into Truly Passive Income 2017
Passive income. A dream for some, a pipedream for most.
That’s both the beautiful and the sad thing about making passive income — it sounds so good on paper, but achieving it is not a walk in the park.
Today, I’ll be teaching you the ins and outs of affiliate marketing. Why ‘affiliate marketing’ you might ask? Well, in order to achieve the elusive smart passive income you’re going to need more than your day job and a few investments here and there.
You need something that’s consistent and can increase your cash flow astronomically. You need a strategy that is either a slow burn, yet does a lot of damage in the end; or a huge burst that stays consistent for years to come. Getting lost with the metaphors? It’s really simple…
If you want consistent passive income, Affiliate Marketing is your best bet.
So let’s stop wasting time and start getting into the nitty gritty details.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
To ease you in your journey towards affiliate marketing training, it’s important for us to go through the basics first.
Affiliate Marketing is promoting someone else’s product in order to earn a healthy commission. You basically sell another brand or company’s product and they pay you a percentage (%) of each sale you bring to them.
The reason why affiliate marketing is such a big hit for internet marketers is because it eliminates the need to create your own product. And I’m sure you’re fully aware of how hard it is to create a product that people will actually want.
With affiliate marketing, everything is laid out for you. All you need to do is wear your salesperson hat and start promoting products religiously.
There are thousands of products online that you can promote. There are health products, online courses, books, tools, and even web hosting. The key is to choose a product that you believe in and that you know for a fact that you could sell.
Step by Step Affiliate Marketing Training
In order for you to learn how to do affiliate marketing, we’ll run through a step by step process where you can maximize the info and learnings so that you can execute it later on.
Step #1: Know Your Niche
They say that ‘knowing is half the battle’, and that’s really on point when it comes to affiliate marketing.
The most important thing you need to do is to zero in on your niche. You must research on what kind of product you want to market. You must look for that one product that you know you’re comfortable in selling. It doesn’t have to be just one product, but it’s highly advisable that you start with one until you get the hang of it.
Are you into health? Tech? Do you prefer selling physical products or digital goods? You must first get a deep understanding on your personal goals before you jump the gun. Once you’re sure about the kind of products you want to promote, you can then move on to the next step.

Step #2: Research
Once you know what niche you want to focus on, it’s time to research everything about it. For example’s sake, let’s say that you chose to go for the ‘Make Money Online’ niche. It’s a very profitable, yet tricky niche to get into. But truth be told, all you really need is preparation and tons of research to succeed in that space.
So research about the top ‘make money online’ products and courses. Read reviews about each and every one of them until you find a product that you know you can sell. Put a lot of weight on customer reviews because it will really give you a telling idea if the product is worth your time.
As an affiliate marketer, you don’t even have to use the product, and sometimes it will actually cost you if you want to try it. So if you don’t have that luxury in your hands, you really have to research and hard and make sure that no stone is left unturned. You must have complete mastery over the product before you even consider selling it.
Here are some affiliate networks you can explore:
- Commission Junction
There are plenty more sites that you can choose from. All I can say is that you really need to do your research to know exactly which company you can work with. I don’t want to give you pure recommendations because again, each situation is different.
Also, do take in mind that you don’t necessarily have to work with an affiliate network. You can find individual products or companies with products that you can promote.
A good move, especially this 2016, is promoting SaaS (Software as a Service) products. They offer huge commissions because of the nature of their business, so it’s something that you should keep an eye on.
Step #3: Website, Hosting, and More
Now that you have a niche, and a product/s to promote, you must start building your own brand.
Your Thoughts: Wait, what? I thought the point of affiliate marketing is for me to just sell someone else’s product? Why do I need to build my own brand now?
Did I create an accurate reenactment of your thoughts right now? To answer your worries, let me clarify — yes, affiliate marketing means you’re leveraging other company’s goods to profit from commissions. That doesn’t change one bit.
So what exactly do I mean by ‘building your own brand’?
It’s simple… If you want to sell something, or let alone be taken seriously, you need to have your own website and social media accounts. How else are you planning on promoting products? Yes — you could spam Reddit or other forums if that’s what you’ve read online, but let’s look at the big picture here. If you want a sustainable business that can generate you passive income for many years, you need to build your brand.
Start creating an identity. Pick a website name. You can either go with your own name or an actual brand. If you want to focus on health products, you can create a website brand revolving around health.
Build up your social media pages, create a blog… In short – you need to put the work in. It’s not going to be easy, but as long as you plant the seeds early on, you have a big chance of banking with affiliate marketing.
BONUS TIP: When purchasing a domain and hosting, you can actually use them as your first products to promote. You can promote Bluehost, for example. They will give you a commission for every customer you bring their way. You can also do this with a few WordPress Theme companies. You can literally start making easy money the moment you start building your own website.
Step #4: PROMOTE!
Affiliate marketing is only as good as the marketer executing it. No matter how many affiliate marketing courses you take, your success will be predicated on how great you execute.
Promoting your product is challenging, but with your website, and social media pages you’re pretty much set.

To get started, here are a few affiliate marketing tips that you can apply for your promotion efforts:
Hacking Social Media
- Did you know that a highly targeted Facebook Ad can turn your $2 into as much as $1000 (depending on your product)? The name of the game is growth hacking. You have to find a platform that you know you can market to. If your target market is on Facebook, then do everything you can to establish a strong presence there. If your target audience are moms, then Pinterest may be the platform you should invest on.
- Don’t be afraid to spend on ads. Sometimes you have to spend money, to make MORE money. Facebook is a great platform to get a great ROI on your ad spend. You can also explore Instagram and Twitter once you’ve fully maximized Facebook.
- It’s 2016 and email is not dead, no matter what Slack does or whoever says otherwise. Email is still one of the best ways to sell ANYTHING. Simply install SumoMe on your website and set up email capturing tools. Once you’ve built a list, you can send them your offer using MailChimp. If you want to learn more about this strategy, it’s best to consider Wealthy Affiliate — read my full review to get started.
- Blogging and guest posting should be one of the top things on your list. You need to spread the word, and it doesn’t stop as soon as you published a 500 word article. You need to work aggressively in promoting your product. Explore guest posting opportunities, tap influencers or people in the same industry. HUSTLE!
- SEO is one important aspect of affiliate marketing that doesn’t really get talked about much. It’s effective and can prove to be a really great money maker because it can drive highly targeted traffic to your site through long tail keywords. The only downside — and the reason why SEO isn’t a priority, is because it does take quite some time to see results.
- There are thousands of forums online that discuss any and every topic under the sun. Find 5 online forums about your niche and start being active. Read, comment, and post. Eventually, you’ll be able to promote your links or even carry a banner or forum signature that you can link out to your offer.
Know Your Target Market
One thing that you need to digest as early as now is that ‘not everyone is your target market’. You want to make as much money as possible, but it cannot be denied that you are only catering to a niche market and not every internet user in the world.
You have to know what your ideal customer is like. His interests, what he wants and what he doesn’t want. This is important because it will dictate exactly how you will market to your customers.
If you’re promoting a tech product, then you can’t have a motherly tone or approach. Same goes with promoting a health product, you can’t be too geeky and speak like you’re running down specs every single time. You have to know your target market so that you can be an effective affiliate marketer.
There are more ways for you to promote your product and get passive income through affiliate marketing. One way of doing so is enrolling in affiliate marketing school or courses.
In order to get the best affiliate marketing training, you need to surround yourself with experts who knows what it takes to succeed. There are plenty of mastermind groups and exclusive affiliate marketing groups that you can explore.
It’s tough to succeed on your own. You can read as many affiliate marketing guides as you want, but you won’t be able to maximize your time and skills if you don’t ‘affiliate’ yourself with some of the best in the business.
Being a beginner affiliate marketer is not easy. You won’t be seeing hundreds or thousands of dollars coming into your bank account in just 1 week. You need to put the work in and hustle hard if you want to achieve passive income status.
